Queens, NY – The ASA Brooklyn Avengers men's tennis team play their first match this season against a NCAA DII team, the Queens College Knights. It was another day of the Avengers struggling in the doubles as they dropped all their doubles sets. "As a 4-year school, these guys have been playing doubles for years," said Avengers men's tennis head coach, Sean Floyd. "We're still trying to find the right lineup."
The Avengers did much better in the singles. "I knew we would be more successful in the singles," said Floyd. "But we battled against a good Queens College team." Down 0-1, the Avengers manage to tie the score 3-3 with their singles play.
In the deciding match, the Avengers were up a break in the 3rdset before the player started cramping. "It's the first time anybody played a full 3 setter this season," said Floyd. The cramping resulted in the Queens Knights winning 4-3.
"It's a learning experience for our team," said Floyd. "Everyone is going to look back at this and understand what we need to do to go to the next level. Matches like this is going to come back more often now. But I'm proud of them. They didn't get down after losing the doubles. We didn't win, but I'm sure we'll get the next one."
