Coach Grudge is one of the most decorated coaches at ASA College, as he’s steered his team to multiple postseason tournaments and has been awarded multiple coaching awards.
Promoted to head coach in the spring of 2012, Grudge has transformed the men's soccer team at ASA into a nationally-recognized program that is a perennial playoff contender in the NJCAA Division I National Championships.
Most recently, Coach Grudge has taken the Avengers to the 2015 NJCAA Division 1 National Tournament, following the team winning the 2015 NJCAA Northeast District championship, as well as the 2015 NJCAA Region XV title. It was personally a great year for Coach, too, as he was named the 2015 Northeast Coach of the Year and the 2015 Northeast Region XV Coach of the Year.
Previously in 2014, Grudge and the Avengers reached their third Region 15 Division I championship match in a row, ending the season with an overall record of 10-5.
The 2013 campaign featured a 10-1 record and a playoff berth following its Region XV championship and a District XV title. The spoils to those achievements included Grudge coaching two NJCAA All-Americans.
Coach Grudge directed the Avengers to a 12-2-2 mark in 2012, finishing tied for first in Region XV play. The 2012 season produced several highlights, including the program's first victory over rival Monroe College, its first season being nationally ranked – where they peaked at No. 15 -- and a defense that recorded nine shutouts and allowed just eight goals in 16 games.
2012 was a great year all around for ASA College men’s soccer, as 10 players earned Region XV All-Academic honors.
Prior to his arrival at ASA, Coach Grudge spent eight seasons as assistant men’s soccer coach at NCAA Division II powerhouse Dowling College, where the program captured a national championship in 2006, became a national finalist in 2008, and was a national semi-finalist in both 2003 and 2004.
He also spent time at Stony Brook University, prior to Dowling, as an assistant coach who helped them to their first-ever Division I Top-25 ranking. That same nationally ranked team finished with a record of 12-4-2 -- the most wins ever in the program’s history.
The 30-year coaching veteran also spent time as the head coach at New York City Technical College. During his 10 seasons there, he was named CUNY Coach of the Year three times and led the team to five conference championships. His teams compiled a record of 82-48-19 with 10-straight NJCAA Region XV Tournament appearances.
Grudge’s soccer expertise isn’t solely relegated to administration, as the Sheffield, England native competed for the Sheffield United FC Junior Blades, the Sheffield Boys, and the three-time Sheffield City Champion Newfield Boys.
He’s a graduate of CCNY with a Bachelor’s degree in Technology, and earned a Master’s degree from Long Island University-Brooklyn in Education. He also completed a BVI certification from Columbia University, and is licensed with the USSF and the NSCAA.
Away from the pitch, Grudge plays saxophone and bass guitar with Brass Construction, a Grammy nominated platinum recording R&B/Funk band.
Coach Grudge resides in Great Neck, New York.
