Westampton, New Jersey– The ASA Brooklyn Avengers men's soccer team travelled for their first out-of-state away game to New Jersey to play against the RCBC Barons.
Continuing to play with a depleted roster, the Avengers wanted to make a response early. They responded with a goal 2:08 into the game, from DeAndre Gordon (assisted by Issouf Banou). However, the Barons were able to tie the game 4 minutes later. With less than 10 minutes left to go in the 1sthalf, the Barons were able to score their 2ndgoal of the game with a miscommunication from the Avengers defenders.
In the 2ndhalf, the Avengers had possession of the ball about 45% of the time, and during that time, the Avengers had 4 opportunities to score goals. However, they just weren't able to convert their opportunities. With a scoreless half from both teams, the game ended 2-1 in a loss for the Avengers.
"We didn't play bad," said ASA Brooklyn Avengers men's soccer head coach, Alphonse Prophete. "The ball control was better this game compared to the 1stgame, we just didn't convert our opportunities. Our goalkeeper played well, we just need to tighten up our defensive schemes and look towards the next game. I'm happy with our player's efforts."
The ASA Brooklyn Avengers next goes back to Long Island to play against Suffolk County on September 10th.
