New Rochelle, NY----The ASA College men's soccer team shocked the NJCAA soccer world this evening, taking down #2 nationally ranked Monroe College, 2-1, in the Region XV Division I Championship match.  ASA now moves on to the Northeast District tournament on November 7th hosted by Mercer County CC, and one step closer to Avengers' second trip to the NJCAA Division I National Championships. It is the Avengers' second region championship in the last three seasons.

Controlling the tempo with aggressive play throughout, the Avengers would capitalize on a free kick by freshman Gabriel Viana who would connect  with sophomore Suleiman  Haruna-Iya for the header. It would be Iya's third goal of the postseason so far.

Playing to an enthusiastic Monroe crowd, the Avengers needed that insurance that would give them some breathing room down the stretch of the match.

They would find that in the 64th minute. Again it would be Viana, who would drill home a penalty kick giving ASA the 2-0 advantage.

The Mustangs did not go down lightly, making one last push to earn back-to-back region championships. In the 75th minute the Mustangs put an assisted  strike past freshman keeper Gerardo Amigon who had a phenomenal evening.  However, the Avengers' backs would deter any further threat from the home team.
