New Rochelle, NY -- The ASA College Brooklyn Avengers men's basketball team enters a four game stretch over the Martin Luther King Jr. weekend from January 19-22nd starting with a 2 game road trip at New Rochelle to play in Monroe College's 2019 MLK Invitational.
The first game was against Westchester Community College. The Avengers had a slow start in the first half as the team was unable to find their shot. "I was still pleased with our team's defense as we held WCC to 26 points for the half," said ASA Brooklyn Avengers men's basketball head coach Devonne Martinez. During the second half, the offense began to click. "The ball movement was the best it's ever been all season and the team defense did not subside," said Martinez. Another key factor that won the Avengers the game was that the team commanded the boards as the Avengers out-rebounded WCC 48-29. During the game, 5 Avengers scored in double digits. "Mo Dumbuya was a tremendous spark off the bench both defensively and offensively," said Martinez. The Avengers won the game 72-52.
The Avengers play their second game at the Monroe College's MLK Invitational on January 20th against Erie Community College. Travon Brown and Robert Terrero both had a double-double with 22 pts/10 rebounds and 12 points/11 rebounds respectively and 2 other Avengers scored in double digits, the Avengers were ultimately unable to win as Erie CC won the game 75-71 and handed the Avengers their 2nd loss of the season.
The Avengers continues their 4 day stretch with a home game on Martin Luther King Day, January 21st 2019 against Bryant & Stratton - Albany.
