ASA Brooklyn Avengers Football Team Wins Conference Game vs Monroe Mustangs with Last Second Field Goal

Brooklyn, NY – The ASA Brooklyn Avengers football team (ranked #18 in the nation) had their second and final conference game of the 2019 season against rivals Monroe Mustang, ranked #12 in the nation.

The ASA Brooklyn Avengers football team's offense and defense fired on all cylinders in the 1st quarter.  On the Avengers first drive of the game, they had a series of successful passing plays but missed the 23-yard field goal to end the drive.   While holding the Mustangs to just 6 yards on their first drive, the Avengers had a successful 56-yard pass, received by #2 Kaedin Robinson for the first touchdown of the game, with 10:53 left in the 1st quarter.  The Mustangs responded back on their 2nd drive with a touchdown to tie the game 7 a-piece.

On the Avengers 3rd drive, they broke through the Mustang's defense at the 3rd down and #24 Stephon Rucker-Carroll completed a play for 79 yards for the Avengers 2nd touchdown.  The Avengers sacked their quarterback to end their 3rddrive and responded back with another touchdown, this time from #5 Tyquan Brown.  The Avengers had another successful stop during the Mustang's 4th drive, forcing a touchback at the end-zone to give the Avengers another 2 points to bring the score up to 23-7.  With the Avengers 5th and final drive of the quarter, the offense completed a pass to #2 Kaedin Robinson for his second touchdown of the game.  The Avengers lead the 1st quarter 30-7.

Continuing the Mustangs drive from the 1st quarter, they successfully completed a touchdown to start the 2nd quarter, to bring the score up at 30-14.  After the electrifying start for the Avengers, the game morphed into a defensive grind-fest.  With a drive lasting almost 7 minutes, the Mustangs scored another touchdown to end the first half, with the Avengers up 30-21.

In the 3rd quarter, the Mustangs had a field goal to start their first drive, and a touchdown on their next drive.  At the end of the 3rd quarter, the Mustangs led the game 31-30.  The Avengers finally up points on the scoreboard after a 2-quarter scoring drought with a field goal on their first drive of the 4th quarter, to take back the lead.  Although the Avengers stopped their first drive of the quarter, the Mustangs scored a touchdown on their final drive to bring the score up to 34-33.

With the Avengers down 2 points with 2:16 left in the game, the Avengers showed no signs of giving up.  Over 2 minutes, the Avengers covered 71 yards over 14 plays for a 21-yard field goal.  The Avengers lead 36-34 with 5 seconds remaining on the game.  The Avengers #9 Alessio Diana intercepted the Mustangs final pass to win the game.
