Brooklyn, NY– The ASA Brooklyn Avengers football team played their first conference game of the 2019 season against the #5 Lackawanna Falcons at home in Aviator Sports Complex.

Ranked #2 (ASA Brooklyn) and #3 (Lackawanna) offensively in the nation, the game instead turned into a defensive slugfest from the very beginning of the quarter.   The Avengers started the first drive of the game, and the drive ended in a sack for the quarterback while Lackawanna scored a 30-yard field goal on their first drive of the game to go up 3-0.  Both the Avengers and Lackawanna failed to get much momentum in their second drive.  Avengers continue to not have much success on the offensive end in the 3rddrive. Although the Avengers intercepted the pass on Lackawanna's third drive, they weren't able to convert the opportunity. The defensive slugfest continued in the second quarter, with both teams unable to put up any points on the board, ending the half with Lackawanna up 3-0.

In the third quarter, the Avengers put up their first points on the board with a 38-yard field goal to tie the game 3-3.  The defense stopped Lackawanna's next drive to set-up the offense, where the Avengers scored the first touchdown of the game with a 25-yard pass.  The pass was received by #11 Abdou Diop.  With the momentum on the Avengers side, the Avengers quickly lost it on the kick-off return, when the Lackawanna Falcons scored a touchdown to tie the game 10 apiece.  In the latter half of the third, Lackawanna was able to score a passing touchdown to go up 17-10.  Both teams were unable to score in the fourth quarter.

The ASA Brooklyn Avengers football team next plays against Army Prep at West Point, NY on October 11th2019, 7 pm.
