Dover, Delaware – The ASA Avengers played against Louisburg College over at Delaware State University for the last varsity game of the 2018 season.
Our younger players had to step up this game as we didn't play a few of our starters. In the first quarter, Louisburg scored on their drive with a 5 yard rushing touchdown. The Avengers defensive team made a few adjustments and was able to hold back Louisburg the rest of the game. On our drive, we were able to score a 2 yard rushing touchdown by running back #35 Alex Brink. In the second quarter, quarterback #5 Khalid Morris was able to pass to wide receiver #84 Tim Howard for a 7 yard touchdown. Our other two touchdowns of the game were also from rushing plays.
Overall on offense, we didn't have much of a passing game. This season, we averaged 215 yards of passing, but we only had 76 yards of passing on 7 completions for 19 attempts. We also struggled in the red zone, where we stalled out on our drives and came away with no points. We attempted to kick for 2 field goals, but failed to score on each attempt. We also turned the ball over a few times – 2 fumbles and 2 interceptions. Their second touchdown was from a 86 yard fumble return for a touchdown. However, we were able to dominate the rushing game as we ran for 376 yards, which was the highest total for the season. The Avengers is currently 5th in the country in rushing yards per game.
