Women's Tennis Into 2nd Place On Day 3 of NJCAA Nationals

TUCSON, AZ --- Another day of competition, another day of undefeated play.

ASA Women's Tennis advanced to nine semifinals with a perfect 9-0 run on Day 3 of the NJCAA Division I National Championships on Tuesday, keeping its hold on a Top 3 position in the standings and a shot as the National Championship.

ASA now has 33 points and sits in 2nd Place, 3 points behind defending champion Tyler Junior College.

The Lady Avengers were even more impressive than on Day 2, taking every match in straight sets, while besting opponents from several teams in the Top 10 of the standings - including three seeded players and one seeded doubles pair.

In Singles, no ASA player allowed more than 3 games to their opponents, led by No. 6 3-seed Fatima Ouattara, who took down #5 Kindra Holliday from Eastern Arizona, 6-1, 6-0. 3-seed Diana Perez (No. 2 Singles) and Tamar Tskhakaia (No. 3 Singles) took down Collin 5-seed Amanda Gilson (6-1, 6-1) and SCF 2-seed Abby Martinez (6-0, 6-2).

No. 4 2-seed Teona Tatishvili and No. 5 1-seed Vlada Rabin rounded out the singles slate for ASA, beating NC Texas' Sarah Palacio (6-2, 6-0) and Eastern Arizona's Ashley Pedro (6-1, 6-2).

On the Doubles side, Dayana Agasieva & Perez (No. 1 2-seed) defeated Meridian's group of Adams & Echezuria, 6-1, 6-0 and Ouattara & Rabin (No. 3 2-seed) got past Eastern Arizona's pair of Alleyne & Nelson, 6-0, 6-1. At No. 2 Doubles, ASA's 3-seed pair of Tskhakaia & Tatishvili worked past 5-seed Barnett & Krog from Collin, 6-2, 6-4.

In the Consolation bracket, No. 1 Dayana Agasieva advanced to the semis with a 8-0 win over Lewis & Clark's Rachel Allord.
