Women's Tennis Earns NJCAA All-Academic Team Honors

BROOKLYN, NY --- The ASA Women's Tennis team led a breakout athletics season for the Avengers in 2011-12, finishing with a #3 national ranking and three student-athletes earning four NJCAA All-American honors.

Their efforts in the classroom were just as impressive.

The NJCAA released its 2011-12 All-Academic Teams list and the Lady Avengers were one of 29 Women's Tennis programs to earn the distinction.

ASA finished tied with the 14th best team grade point average of the Women's Tennis teams, posting a combined GPA of 3.30. The Lady Avengers were tied with Fashion Institute of Technology, one of four other Empire State teams named in the Women's Tennis category.

Overall, of the 42 New York institutions in the NJCAA, ASA was one of nine schools represented on the All-Academic Teams list.

450 teams qualified for academic team accolades. Nearly 60,000 student-athletes competed in the NJCAA for the 2011-2012 academic year on 3,500+ teams in 28 different sports.

The 2011-2012 season marks the 29th year the NJCAA has recognized the success of its student-athletes in the classroom. With minimal changes, the NJCAA academic awards program has been in place since 1983.
