ASA Avengers Women's Soccer Team Wins 3-1 After a Midseason Break

Pleasantville, NY - October 19th, 2018 – After not playing a game since September 28th, the ASA Avengers women's soccer team travelled to Pace University to play against their JV soccer team.

The Avengers started off rusty given the extended time off and gave up a goal five minutes into the game.  However, they responded back quickly with a goal of their goal about five minutes later.  The goal was from #5 midfielder, Rosaisela Reyes, who was assisted by #10 midfielder, Asako Ideue, with a corner kick.  The first half ended with a score of 1-1.

Ten minutes into the second half, the Avengers scored their second goal of the game.  This time, it was #13 midfielder, Yoselin Bonola, who assisted #11 forward, Shonagh Cleary for her first goal of the game.  She scored her second goal of the game 75 minutes in.  Yet again, it was another corner kick from #10 midfielder, Asako Ideue.  The game ended in a win for the Avengers 3-1.  Overall the goalkeeper, Maria Cordeiro, made 5 saves for the Avengers, while the offense made 15 shots.

On the game - "I was really proud of the girl's efforts from working so hard from practice the last few weeks.  We've made a lot of improvements since the last game.  Hopefully we can get another victory in our next game against CCRI."

On the offense – "Offensively we were able to create a lot more chances."

On the defense – "We were very solid, defensively."

The ASA Avengers women's soccer team travels to Rhode Island to play their next game against Community College of Rhode Island on Monday, October 22nd.
