ASA Avengers Women's Soccer Team Plays Their Home Game of the Season

Brooklyn, NY – On Friday, September 28th 2018 the ASA Avengers women's soccer team plays region rivals Monroe College for their home game of the season at Aviator Sports Complex, Brooklyn, NY.

In yet another rainy game day this soccer season, the ASA Avengers Women's Soccer team managed to hold their own for the first half.  The defense along with the goalkeeper was able to hold the Monroe Mustangs back and by halftime, the score 0-1.  However, in the second half Monroe Mustangs scored 7 goals and the score ended 1-8 with a win to remain undefeated for the 2018 season.

"We have to give Monroe a lot of credit, they're a very talented team," said women's soccer head coach Jon Panella.  "Our girls [ASA Avengers women's soccer team] stayed very well organized in the first half.  Unfortunately soccer is a sport where it's very difficult to defend for very long and it caught up to us in the second half.  I appreciate the effort our girls gave."

  • On offense – "We need to be more dangerous on the counterattack and apply more pressure up top.
  • On Asako – "She scored a great free kick."  Asako scored ASA Avengers' lone goal of the game.
  • On the goalkeeper – "Gabby made some great saves to keep us in the game especially in the first half."

ASA Avengers women's soccer team travels to Rhode Island to play their next game of the season against Community College of Rhode Island on October 16th.
