#14 ASA Women’s Soccer Defeats #10 Monroe College

New Rochelle, NY - Undefeated ASA women's soccer traveled to Monroe College to open conference play in the fall 2017 season.

Monroe entered the game ranked 10th in the nation with a 3-2 record. Despite being outshot 15-14, ASA managed to find the back of the net winning the game 4-0. ASA got out to an early lead with Asako Ideue scoring in the 14th minute.  The Avengers leading scorer Tamara Queiroz scored two goals late in the first half giving ASA a 3-0 lead. Sara Quevada added one more goal just after the half which would be the last score of the game.  

After the new NJCAA Division I soccer rankings were released on 10/3/2017, ASA moved up to #12 in the nation, while Monroe dropped out of the top 20.


  • The 4-0 victory marks the third shutout by ASA.
  • ASA has only conceded one goal all season vs Essex County College.
  • ASA is averaging seven goals per game this season compared to the 4.79 from last year.
  • Goalie Leticia Sandoval is tied for second in the nation with only one goal allowed this season.
