BROOKLYN, NY --- Sophomore forward Sashana Bucknor, a two-year contributor and 2013 NJCAA All-American, has signed a Letter of Intent to continue her academic and athletic career at Eastern Michigan University. Bucknor is the second sophomore from this year's squad to sign with a NCAA Division I school, joining sophomore guard Shaquita Smith, who will be heading to Utah State.
Bucknor's expanded role on the 2012-13 Women's Basketball squad paid record dividends for the Lady Avengers. Bucknor averaged 12.4 PPG and 11.7 RPG for the first-time District C champions and National Championship qualifiers. ASA - the No. 19 seed in the National Championship - went a program-record 25-4, including a 74-68 victory over No. 14 seed Western Nebraska CC.
Bucknor reached double figures in 20 contests and double-digit rebounds in 21 games, equating to 16 double-doubles on the season. Her game highs in each category were 25 points against Clinton Junior College on December 17 and 21 rebounds against Lenoir CC in the ASA College Tournament on December 22.
As a freshman in 2011-12, Bucknor averaged 6.2 PPG, 7.3 RPG and 1.0 SPG for the 22-5 Lady Avengers.
Bucknor joins a six-player recruiting class for second-year coach Tory Verdi that will look to improve on EMU's 8-22 record in 2012-13.
With Bucknor signing at EMU, the Lady Avengers have signed nine total NCAA Division I players in program history and 15 overall.
