Three Avengers Basketball Players Named NJCAA All-Americans
Davis - a Second Team recipient - is the third Avenger to be recognized by the NJCAA as an All-American, after Honorable Mention selections Roberto Colonette (2009-10) and Michael McLeod (2011-12).
Bucknor and Jones give the Lady Avengers a total of five NJCAA All-Americans in their four seasons. Bucknor joins former Lady Avenger Denyse Moore (2009-10) as a Third Team award winner, while Jones joins Brittany Webb and Latasia Ward (2011-12) as Honorable Mention recipients.
Davis' remarkable skills were a primary reason for Men's Basketball's outstanding 2012-13 campaign. The point guard posted averages of 16.0 PPG, 4.7 RPG and 7.6 APG while leading the Avengers to a program-best 28-4 record, sweep of the Region XV regular season and tournament titles, and appearance in the District III Finals.s ASA also received its first Top 25 ranking in school history, peaking at #23 on March 5.
Davis scored in double digits in 25 games, including a season-high 34 points on January 26 against Region XV rival Westchester CC. Davis was also adept at setting up his teammates, recording seven games with more than ten assists. He dished out a season-high 16 assists in a 127-74 rout of Kingsborough CC.
Bucknor's expanded role on the 2012-13 Women's Basketball squad also paid record dividends. Bucknor averaged 12.4 PPG and 11.7 RPG for the first-time District C champions and National Championship qualifiers. ASA - the No. 19 seed in the National Championship - went a program-record 25-4, including a 74-68 victory over No. 14 seed Western Nebraska CC.
Bucknor reached double figures in 20 contests and double-digit rebounds in 21 games, equating to 16 double-doubles on the season. Her game highs in each category were 25 points against Clinton Junior College on December 17 and 21 rebounds against Lenoir CC in the ASA College Tournament on December 22.
Jones' addition as a transfer helped facilitate Bucknor's breakout season by creating a frontcourt tandem like none the Lady Avengers have seen. Jones also averaged a double-double on the year, scoring 12.2 PPG and grabbing 11.9 RPG. She reached double figures in 19 games and pulled down ten or more rebounds in 20 games, adding up to 17 double-doubles. Jones' season highlight came in ASA's thrilling 70-69 victory over Burlington CC, where she scored 24 points, snagged 24 rebounds, and assisted on Shaquita Smith's game winning three pointer.
Together the duo posted double-doubles in the same game ten times.
This is the second consecutive year that Avengers Basketball has earned three All-American nods, following McLeod, Webb and Webb in 2011-12.
