Lady Avengers Dominate Niagara CC In Final Day of Cougar Classic

BATAVIA, NY --- In the final women's contest of the Genesee CC Cougar Classic, ASA Women's Basketball put together another strong performance, defeating the Niagara CC Thunderwolves 64-31. Sophomore forward Sashana Bucknor notched her second double double of the season, putting up ten points and ten rebounds to claim MVP and All-Tournament honors.

Bucknor finished with averages of 11.0 PPG and 6.5 RPG in the two games.

Sophomore forward Tiffany Jones posted game highs of 13 points and 11 rebounds, which freshman guard Kelcey Castro followed up her 20-point performance with 11 points. Both players were named to the All-Tournament team.

ASA (4-1) was able to control the game from the outset, much like they were able to do in Saturday's game against Genesee CC. NCCC's Kristine Ripson scored the game's opening basket, giving Niagara (4-5) its only lead of the contest. Sophomore guard Jade Wharton would take the lead from NCCC with 19:17 remaining on a 3-pointer and ASA would never look back. The Lady Avengers would take its largest lead of the first half - 33-16 - into the break.

A 15-2 ASA run to open the second half would would extend the lead to 30, a lead that would max at 35 before the final buzzer and 33-point margin of victory.

Freshman forward Colleene Smith rounded out the Lady Avengers in double figures with ten points.

Ripson led NCCC with 13 points.
