BROOKLYN, NY --- Sophomore forward Tiffany Jones logged game-highs of 17 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to lead ASA Women's Basketball to a 65-53 victory over Union County College on Thursday evening at St. Francis College.
Jones went 7-for-10 from the field, 3-for-3 from the free throw line, and added three steals for ASA (2-1), who now hold a 3-1 lead in the all-time series over UCC. The win also pushes its current home winning streak to 11 games, dating back to the 2011-12 season's undefeated 10-0 record.
ASA's lights-out shooting was the primary reason the Lady Avengers never trailed after Union scored the opening basket of the contest. ASA went 50% from the field (24-for-48), 46.2% from long range (6-for-13), and 78.6% from the line (11-for-14). The ASA defense held UCC to 32.2% shooting (19-for-59), including locking down Lady Owls' outside chances (7.7% 3PT - 1-for-13).
Sophomore forward Sashana Bucknor was the only other ASA player in double figures, finishing with 11 points on 4-for-6 shooting (1-1 3PT), along with five rebounds. Sophomore guard Shaquita Smith added nine points and a game-high five steals.
The Lady Avengers are off until next weekend, when they travel to Batavia, NY to take part in the Genesee CC Tournament on December 8-9.
