Ward, Webb Named NJCAA All-Americans

BROOKLYN, NY --- The NJCAA has released its 2011-12 All-American teams and sophomores Latasia Ward (Bronx, NY) and Brittany Webb (New York, NY) have been named Division I Honorable Mention All-Americans. Ward and Webb join former Lady Avenger standout Denyse Moore (Third Team, 2009-10) as NJCAA All-Americans.

The sophomore pair being honored by the NJCAA adds to a banner year for Women's Basketball in which the team posted a program-best 22 victories, finished with a Top-10 national defense, and received recognition in the national rankings for the first time.

"These individual honors, along with our team milestones, is a testament to what we have accomplished in just three short years as a NJCAA program," said Head Coach Adia Revell.

Ward, a versatile 5-8 guard, played in 56 games for ASA, missing only one game due to injury. Her durability has allowed her to be a consistently lethal offensive player throughout her career. She is the all-time leading scorer in program history (551), the first two-year player to score 200+ points in consecutive seasons, and has recorded double-digits scoring games in over half her contests (29). She also boasts career averages of 9.84 PPG on 35% shooting (33% 3PT), 4.61 RPG, 2.3 APG and 2.3 SPG.

As skilled as she is on the offensive side, Ward is a true all-around player, having increased her production across the board this season - points, rebounds, shooting percentage, assists, steals, and even blocks. She ended the 2011-12 campaign with totals of 11.7 PPG on 36% shooting (38% 3PT), 6.2 RPG, 2.2 APG and 2.3 SPG.

Ward and her class finished their career at ASA with a 39-18 overall record, along with the program's first two trips to the District C tournament as winners of Region XV.

Ward said of being chosen, "It is truly an honor to be named an All-American. I am grateful to my coaches and teammates for helping me achieve this for the program. It's great to see all your hard work pay off."

"There is no player more deserving of being named an All-American than Latasia Ward," said Revell upon learning of Ward's selection. "She has worked extremely hard to earn this and I couldn't be more proud of her."

Webb, a multifaceted 6-4 center, joined the Lady Avenger program after a season at Columbia State Community College and made a major impact on the program. She played in 25 games for ASA this season, posting averages of 8.9 PPG, 6.9 RPG and 1.7 BPG. Webb recorded eleven double-digit games this season, including four double-doubles. She also posted the third-highest single season block total (42) and fifth-highest single season rebound total (173) in the program's young history.

However, her biggest individual impact was evident in the team's overall performance. As the anchor of the Lady Avengers defense, the team finished the year ranked seventh in Division I team defense (49.1 PPG), up from 14th (55.6 PPG) in 2010-11. This propelled ASA to a 22-5 record, the best in the program's three NJCAA seasons.

"To be named an All-America, I am truly blessed. I am thankful for the support of my teammates, Coach Revell, her staff, and my family," said Webb. "A year ago, I would have never imagined I would be in this position. I am extremely humbled."

"Brittany's growth in the past year here at ASA has been remarkable. For her to be honored as an All-American, and subsequently committing to Seton Hall University, is the culmination of that growth," added Revell. "She has only scratched the surface of her potential as a player and as a person."

Webb will join the Pirates in the fall, while Ward is receiving interest from Division I and Division II colleges, but has yet to commit to a school.
