BROOKLYN, NY --- Freshman guard Deborah Anderson (Tacoma, WA) scored 16 points to lead a trio of Lady Avengers in double figures as ASA defeated a feisty Baltimore City team, 66-49, in the first game of ASA Basketball's home opening doubleheader on Saturday afternoon.
Anderson went 6-for-9 from the field, including 3-for-5 from three-point range, and added three steals. Sophomore center Brittany Webb (New York, NY) posted a double-double with an even 15 points and 15 rebounds and sophomore guard Latasia Ward (Bronx, NY) added 12 points and seven rebounds for ASA (5-0).
BCCC (0-6) played better than their record indicates, consistently providing pressure on outlet passes and fast breaks. As improved as the Panthers were from last year's meeting (a 34-14 ASA victory), the Lady Avengers still weathered the storm and took a 32-20 advantage into the locker room at halftime. The game would play closer in the second half but to no avail for Baltimore City. ASA dominated the rebounding battle during the game, nearly doubling BCCC's output on the night.
ASA will have time to rest before its next game, a December 5th rematch at Kingsborough CC. Game time is scheduled for 7pm.
