Track and Field Has Stellar Showing at USMMA Coach Omeltchenko Invitational

Kings Point, NY----The ASA College men's and women's track teams had strong showings this weekend at the United States Merchant Marine Academy Coach Omeltchenko Invitational.  The men finished 2nd as a team among 17 two-year and four-colleges and universities.  The Lady Avengers finished 7th among 18 two-year and four-year colleges and universities.  

On the women's side, sophomore Monet Gist had a very productive day, winning the 100M Hurdles with a time of 15:05 and placing fifth in the 100M Dash.  In the 800M run, freshman Shanika Dessein would take home the gold medal with a time of 2:12.62.  Sophomore Nia Ruth also finished in the top-3 in an event, placing second in the 400M Hurdles with a time of 1:07.18.  

The men's squad dominated in the majority of the running events on the day.  Freshman Tevin McMeo would win the 400M Dash with a time of 48.90.  Sophomore Joseph Williams won the 100M Dash with a time of 10.92.  The Avengers controlled the winners' podium in 800M with the top-three finishers representing ASA.  Freshman standout Jaymes Dennision led the pack with a time of 1:53.10.  He would be followed by sophomore James LeaQuan and freshman Christian Patterson who finished with times of 1:54.35 and 1:58.22 respectively.  Freshman Emmanuel Mosley won the 400M Hurdles.  The Avengers also took home the top-prize in the 4x400 relay of a team consisting of Patterson, James, Mosley, and Kyron Planter.
