Queens, NY– The ASA Brooklyn Avengers men's tennis travelled to St. John's University on Wednesday, April 10th, 2019.
St. John's University is the strongest team the Avengers have faced so far this season. "We had a strong practice yesterday, I felt they were well prepared for today," said ASA Brooklyn Avengers men's tennis coach Sean Floyd. "Going in, I knew it was going to be a tough battle. They're probably the best team in New York."
Coming into the match, St. John's underestimated the Avengers. Going into the doubles, the Avengers managed to go toe-to-toe with St. John. Two out of the three doubles went into tie breakers. "One point here, and one point there and the game could've gone either way," said Floyd. "After the doubles, St. John's took the Avengers more seriously."
In the singles, a few calls went in favor of St. John's. "I told the players to be expected coming in as the away team," said Floyd. "They need to learn not to be rattled and learn how to handle unexpected situations."
Vladyslav Kulakov managed to take the first set in his match. "Vlad was our 4thsingles, today we moved him to 3rdsingles," said Floyd. "He did well, but he just needs to learn to fight through. This is what we need to learn to get to the Nationals."
"I was proud of the way the players played," said Floyd. "They were able to bring their games to the next level. The players fought hard and I'm glad we were able to get our name out there."
