ASA Men's Tennis Finishes #2 AT NJCAA Nationals
Plano, TX----The ASA College men's tennis program joined the women's team today finishing the 2013 season ranked #2 nationally with an amazing week at the NJCAA National Championships. This is the highest ranking in the program's young three year history and it is only the second season the Avengers have competed at the National Championships.
The five day event would be capped off with three different appearances in the finals of the championships. Freshman Christian Waldron and sophomore Pavel Zhdanov would play in the singles finals for the #4 and #5 flights championships respectively. Zhdanov would defeat Scottsdale to be crowned a national champion and an NJCAA first team All-American. Waldron, only a freshman, would garner second-team All-American for his finals appearance. Only twenty minutes after winning his singles championship, Zhdanov would team up with fellow sophomore Nail Khabiyev for the #3 doubles championship. Despite losing the match to National Champion Tyler, both would be named second-team NJCAA All-Americans in the event.
ASA used this tremendous week to establish themselves as one of the elite college tennis programs in the country. In addition to the finals appearances, the Avengers advanced to the quarterfinals in eight of the nine events and advanced to the semifinals in six of nine flights.
