Brooklyn, NY – On October 26th, 2018, the ASA Avengers men's soccer team hosts the Monroe Mustangs for the 2018 Region XV Championship. The game will tip off at 7:30 pm in Belson Stadium at St. John's University in Queens, NY. The host for this year's championship was determined after the Avengers won 2-1 against the Monroe Mustangs on October 12th 2018 during the regular season.
For the past few years, the ASA Avengers men's soccer team has not had much success in the Region XV Championships against Monroe College. However, this year, former ASA Avengers women's soccer head coach, Brett Polow, was promoted the head coach for the men's soccer team. Last season, Coach Polow led the ASA Avengers women's soccer team to second place in the 2017 NJCAA National Tournament.
"We're excited to be in this position that we're in, to be able to host the 2018 Region XV Championships," said Polow. "Throughout the season, we've tried to use guys in different positions and feel them out in different spots. A lot of guys have gotten a good amount of playing time and as the format changes in the postseason, we're going to start tightening the rotation. We want the guys to see consistent success and we to put the guys in their most comfortable spots on the field."
"Monroe is a well-coached team, it's going to be a chess match," said Polow. "We've had a very good week of training and our guys are excited for the game."
The winner of this game will go on to play for the District Championships.
