Brooklyn, NY---The ASA College men's lacrosse team came a goal short of completing one of the best comebacks in program history. The Avengers wound up losing to #10 CCBC-Catonsville (5-0), 10-9, who was able to deny ASA a clean final shot that would send the game into overtime. ASA drops to 1-1 on the season. ASA will be back on the field on Thursday, March 27th, at Columbia University. Opening faceoff is scheduled for 8:30 PM.
The Avengers would find themselves down 6-2 halfway through the third quarter with things not looking good for the remainder of game. However, the Avengers would rattle off three unanswered goals in less than three minutes that would help them pull within a goal going into the final period. Catonsville responded by scoring the first two goals in the fourth period. The two teams traded goals the next couple of minutes. Down 10-8, ASA freshman midfielder Nathan Stewart, scored one of his three goals on the afternoon with :45 seconds remaining in the contest.
With momentum on their side, the Avengers would regain possession and call timeout for one last play. Freshman attack Josh Byrne was able to get toward the crease but wasn't able to get a clean look for the net to send the game into overtime.
Penalties hurt ASA all afternoon long, racking up 9:30 in the box to Catonsville's one minute. One of the Cardinals' nets was an extra man goal.
