BROOKLYN, NY --- The ASA Lacrosse program - fresh off a breakthrough 2013 campaign - had several players recognized by both Region XV and the NJCAA for their outstanding play this season.
Avengers Lax placed ten players on the All-Region XV First & Second Teams, up from 2012's total of six honorees. Sophomores Casey Jackson (Attack) and Brandon Goodwin (Midfield) repeated as First Team members and were joined by freshmen Joe Granata (Midfield), Jeremy Wiley (Defense) and Kyle Hubbard (Goalie). Sophomores Coltin Borthwick (Attack), Matthew Edwin (Midfield), Kevin Hartley (Defense) & Raymond McClough (Defense) and freshman Reid Mydske (Midfield) were named to the Second team.
Jackson and Goodwin also made history with their selections as NJCAA All-Americans. Jackson, named to the First Team, becomes the first Avengers student-athlete ever to earn two NJCAA First Team All-American nods. Goodwin was also named to the First Team, making him and Jackson the second and third ASA athletes to earn NJCAA honors in each of their two seasons in Brooklyn (Tetiana Kovalska, Women's Tennis, 1st-2012, 2nd-2010).
These eight student-athletes led the Avengers to an 11-6 record in 2013, nearly doubling their win total from the team's inaugural 2012 season. ASA was ranked for the first time, reaching #10 in the NJCAA polls, knocked off two ranked foes (#10 Brookdale CC and #4 Suffolk CC) finished second in Region XV play and defeated Suffolk 17-11 in the program's first home Region XV playoff game.
