Lincroft, NJ----The ASA College men's lacrosse team defeated #10 Brookdale Community College 13-9 this afternoon. The Avengers improve to 7-4 with the win. Brookdale falls to 6-5 . It is ASA's second win so far this season against opponents ranked in the top ten nationally in the weekly NJCAA poll.
ASA took control of the game early, scoring three unanswered goals in the first ten minutes. Brookdale would answer with two consecutive goals of their own to cut the lead to 3-2 to end the first quarter.
The Avengers would jump back up by three goals in the first three minutes of the second quarter on Coltin Borthwick's second net of the game. The home team would claw their way back in the final five minutes of the first half, scoring three goals in a row to tie the game six just before intermission.
Brookdale would take advantage of ASA's scoreless opening eleven minutes of the second half, taking the 8-6 lead. Sophomore Hunter Curran would break the drought with 4:18 remaining in the third quarter. ASA would then tie the game on an unassisted goal with 1:18 left in the quarter.
The Avengers were led in scoring by sophomore Brandon Goodwin who finished with five goals and two assists. Coltin Borthwick and Tom Hamlet also had multiple goals for the Avengers with two each. Sophomore Joe Granata dished out four assists to go along with a goal. Jeremy Wiley was very active on the defensive end coming up with six ground balls.
The Avengers will be back on the field on Monday at Fordham University. The first face-off is scheduled for 7:00 PM.
