Brentwood, NY-----The ASA College men's lacrosse team earned their biggest win of the program's short history this afternoon by defeating #4 Suffolk 12-11. The Avengers improve to 5-1 overall, 1-0 in Region XV play, and have now won their fifth game in a row. Suffolk was undefeated at 5-0 before today's loss.
An even game throughout, neither team would lead by more than two goals. The Avengers would hold on to the 12-11 for the final five minutes of the game with relentless defense by Kevin Hartley, Raymond McClough, Jeremy Wiley, Matthew Edwin, and Reid Mydske who also also made huge man-down stands against crucial Suffolk posessions. ASA got a career day from goalie Kyle Hubbard who finished with 27 saves to go along with six ground balls.
The Avengers were led in scoring by sophomore middie, Joe Granata, who finished with four goals and an assist. Sophomore All-Americans Casey Jackson and Brandon Goodwin each finished the win with two goals and an apple. Freshamn midfielder Antoine Williams also scored two goals and added an assist. Sophomore Coltin Borthwick distributed three assists on the afternoon.
The road will not get much easier for the Avengers as they travel to Columbia, MD on Saturday to take on #9 Howard Community College. The first face-off is scheduled for 1:00 PM. The game game will be part of a two-game trip to Maryland. On Sunday, the Avengers will play CCBC Catonsville. That game will also begin at 1:00 PM.
