BROOKLYN, NY --- The #10 ASA Men's Lacrosse team won its third-straight game, taking down Dean College, 14-7, in the Avengers' home opener on Thursday afternoon. The victory improves ASA's record to 3-1 on the season.
ASA wasted little time getting on the scoreboard, as freshman Tom Hamlet set up sophomore Hunter Curran for the game's first goal at the 13:43 mark of the first period. After Dean tied the score less than a minute later, the Avengers rattled off four straight goals - from four different players - to take a 5-1 lead. Sophomore Brandon Goodwin scored or assisted on the final three goals in the first.
The second quarter opened much like the first with both teams exchanging goals in the early minutes, only to have ASA finish the period with a string of unanswered points.
With the score at 6-3, sophomore Casey Jackson put his signature on the contest. After only scoring one goal in the first, Jackson scored or assisted on the final three goals of the half, giving the Avengers a 9-3 cushion.
ASA would score five more times in the second half - with Jackson also involved on each play.
Jackson would finish with a game-high seven goals and a pair of assists. Goodwin added a goal and three assists on the day. Curran, along with freshmen Richard Tagliagambe and Joe Granata, scored two goals. Granata also added three assists.
With their solid games, Jackson and Goodwin remain at the top of the national statistical leaderboards. As of today's game, Jackson currently leads the NJCAA in goals (25) and points (33) while Goodwins paces the nation in assists (14).
ASA returns to action on Saturday, March 16 as the team travels south to face Delaware Tech. First faceoff is scheduled for 1:00 PM.
