ASA Brooklyn Avengers Men's Basketball Team Comes Back to Win Double Digits

Brooklyn, NY – The ASA College Brooklyn Avengers men's basketball team played against Genesee Community College Cougars at home in Achievement First High School on January 12th 2019.

After the Avengers men's basketball team allowed 94 points against Lackawanna 2 days before, a season high, the Avengers look to step up their defensive intensity especially after a month long mid-season break.  The Avengers had a lackluster first half.  "It was a dogfight," said ASA Avengers men's basketball head coach, Devonne Martinez.  The Avengers went up 33-30 in the first half.

Early in the second half, the Cougars gained momentum and went up by as much as 6 points.  With a timeout, the Avengers finally turned the defensive intensity up.  The Avengers didn't regain the lead until 10 minutes remaining in the 2nd half up 53-52 and the Avengers didn't look back.  A combination of defensive stops, transition offense, and 2nd chance opportunities stretched the Avengers lead to double digits and finished the game 78-66.  The Avengers finished the game with 5 players scoring in double digits.

"We're still dealing with the effects of the 30 day lay-off," said Martinez.  "Overall, I'm happy with the win, but there's tons of things we have to get right especially after the layoff."

The Avengers travel to Bronx to play against Hostos Community College at 7 pm on January 15th 2019.
