HAGERSTOWN, MD --- The #23 ASA College Men's Basketball team suffered a tough 93-84 loss to #17 Hagerstown CC on Saturday evening in the District III Championship game. The Avengers fall to 28-4 with the loss, but still have a chance to earn an at-large bid to the National Championship, to be held in Hutchinson, KS. Hagerstown receives District III's automatic bid to "Hutch" with the win.
Tied at 40-40 at halftime, Hagerstown would start to pull away in the final three minutes of the game. ASA would hang tough until the end, never letting the Hawks keep a comfortable double digit lead.
Hagerstown benefited from shooting 23-of-26 from the free throw line in the second half, compared to the Avengers' 1-of-2.
The Avengers received another huge game from sophomore guard Daquan Brickhouse, who finished with 25 points, including knocking down 4-of-9 from behind the arc. Sophomore guard Eian Davis was also huge for the Avengers, finishing with 25 points of his own while dishing out eight assists.
Hagerstown's Antonio Jenifer led all scorers with 32 points.
The Avengers did a great job taking care of the ball, only committing nine turnovers to Hagerstown's 12.
ASA's fate now rests in the hands of the NJCAA Men's Basketball Tournament Selection Committee, which will announce the tournament's four at-large bids on Monday, March 11.
