Men's Basketball Wins Region XV Championship!

New Rochelle, NY-----The ASA College men's basketball team defeated Monroe College this evening 59-57 in the championship game of the Region XV-Division I Tournament.  The Avengers improve to 28-3 with the win and will now move on to the District III championship game next weekend.

Trailing by as many as 15 points in the first five minutes of the second half, the Avengers or 'cardiac kids' finished their exciting week the way they started it; with grit and heroics.  Sophomore guard and tournament MVP Daquan Brickhouse would hit a fall away jumper from the left wing to take the 59-57 lead with :23 to go in the game.  Monroe would not be able to manage a clean shot, giving ASA their first Region XV championship in the program's short history.

The ASA full-court press was too much for the Mustangs to handle, resulting in turnovers and leading to quick ASA baskets.  Freshman guard Micqueel Martin caused havoc in the backcourt for the Monroe guards.  He would finish the game with 11 points and six rebounds.  Before fouling out, forward Victor Ljuljdjuraj was also solid down the stretch finishing driving dishes by Martin and Region XV Player of the Year, Eian Davis.

Tournament MVP, Daquan Brickhouse, led all scorers with 18 points, good for an 18.5 scoring average for the tournament.  Ljuljdjuraj was also named to the All-Tournament team averaging 10.5 points and 5.5 rebounds in the two games.

ASA will play Hagerstown CC at Hagerstown on Saturday, March 9th.  Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 PM.  Winner will have an automatic trip to the national tournament held in Hutchinson, KS.
