Brooklyn, NY-----The ASA men's basketball team defeated the Community College of Rhode Island this afternoon 63-57 at St. Francis College. The Avengers improve to 21-4 with the non-region victory.
Trailing most of the second half, ASA put together a run in the final 2:30 that pushed them to the win. Down four with 2:30 remaining in the game, freshman guard Micqueel Martin would knock down a three-pointer that cut CCRI's lead to 57-56. After a solid defensive stand Martin would follow-up a Victor Ljuljdjuraj missed three-point shot attempt with a thunderous dunk right off of the rim with 1:25 to go for the 58-57 lead. The Knights would not score again and sophomore Daquan Brickhouse would put the game out of reach with a three-pointer from the corner with :30 to go in the game.
The Avengers led most of the first half building a ten-point lead half-way through the half. Rhode Island chipped away for the 34-33 halftime lead. The Knights did not trail again until Martin and the Avengers answered in a big way with 1:25 remaining in the game
ASA was led by Martin's 20 points. Brickhouse chipped in 16 points. Ljuljdjuraj had another monster game on the boards finishing with 15 rebounds. Rhode Island's Desmond Williams led all scorers with 31.
The Avengers will be back at home at St. Francis College on February 19th to host a region game against Globe. Tip-off is set for 8:00 PM.
