Roach's Free-Throws Carry Avengers Over Monroe 73-65

Brooklyn, NY----After making his first free-throw putting ASA up 65-63 with 31-seconds remaining in the game, sophomore guard Daquan Brickhouse missed his second shot.  However, sophomore forward Kareem Roach would slither his way through the Monroe trees for the offensive rebound getting fouled in the act for a chance at a one-and-one.  Roach calmly knocked down both shots with 29-seconds to go.  After two made free-throws by Monroe's Maurice NDour, Roach would find himself in the same position a few seconds later with a chance to seal the game.  The Florida native was fouled with 23-seconds remaining and converted again on both free-throws.  After a missed three-pointer by Monroe's Isaiah Epps, the 5-foot-8 Brickhouse would pull down the rebound, get fouled, and knocked down two more free-throws to put the game out of reach with :12 remaining.

ASA led most of the game.  The Mustangs did take a seven lead with 7:55 remaining in the first half but it would be erased by a 12-0 ASA run good for a 27-21 lead with 4:25 to go.  ASA would close the half with the 33-30 lead.

The Avengers came out of halftime with a vengeance, building a ten point lead in the first four minutes of the second half.  Monroe didn't become a threat again until 7:57 remaining in the game, tying the game at 56 on an Epps lay-in.  The Mustangs would take their last lead of the game with a little over six minutes to play with a 57-56 advantage.  The Avengers answered at the 5:16 mark on a Quillar Marion pull-up jumper.  ASA would keep at least a two-point lead the rest of the way thanks in part to Roach's heroics down the stretch.

ASA was led by sophomore forward Victor Ljuljdjuraj's 16 points.  Daquan Brickhouse added 14 points.  Sophomore guard Eian Davis recorded a double-double on the evening finishing with twelve assists to go along with ten points.  Monroe's Stephane Manga led all scorers with 22 off of the bench.

The win moves ASA into a first-place tie in the region with Monroe.

The Avengers will continue their three-game homestand this week on Thursday against Essex at St. Francis College Brooklyn Heights.  Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 PM.
