West Point, NY----The ASA men's basketball team defeated the Black Knights of Army Prep Thursday evening, 81-73. The Avengers improve to 15-4 with the win.
ASA struck first on their first offensive possession on a made lay-up by Daquan Brickhouse, who was also fouled on the play. The lead would change hands a couple of times, however it was ASA who controlled the advantage most of the first half. ASA led by as many six and went into halftime with the 41-38 lead.
The Avengers opened the second half with a 5-0 to go up eight in the first minute and half of the second half. ASA maintained a lead until Army knocked down a three-point shot to go up by two with 9:24 to go in the game. The Avengers tied the game on the next possession with an Eian Davis lay-up. The Black Knights would then go on a 7-0 to take the 63-56 lead with 7:44 remaining in the contest. Army's lead was knocked down on ASA's next offensive possession on a three-point make by Daquan Brickhouse. Slowly chopping at the lead for the next couple of minutes, ASA would regain the one-point advantage on a fast-break started by Brickhouse and finished by fellow sophomore, Rysheen Dorn. The Avengers never trailed again, allowing Army only five points in final four minutes and forty seconds of the game.
The Avengers were led by a career-high 25 points from Daquan Brickhouse who shot 4-7 from beyond the arc. Sophomore forward Victor Ljuljdjuraj had a solid all-around performance scoring 12 points, grabbing nine rebounds, and blocking five shots. Off of the bench, sophomore forward, Quillar Marion, provided a nice spark scoring 11 points.
The Avengers will return to Region XV play on Saturday, January 26th, as they travel to Valhalla, NY to take on Westchester Community College. Tip-off is scheduled for 2:00 PM.
