Valhalla, NY----The votes are in and ASA College head men's basketball coach, Kenney Wilcox, was named the Region XV-Division I Coach of the Year by his peers! The honor is Wilcox's first since starting the program during the 2008-09 basketball season. It is his fourth time winning the award, having done so three other years while still the head coach at Globe Institute, another Region XV affiliated program he built from the ground up into a national junior college power before he moved on to ASA.
Coach Wilcox guided a young 2011-12 Avenger squad to a 5-1 Region XV-Division I regular season record. At 5-1, the team would clinch the Region XV-Division I regular season championship. The regular season championship is the sixth of a Coach Wilcox coached team and the first for ASA College since the program's inception for the 2008-09 season.
Since the 2008-09 season, Coach Wilcox has compiled an overall record of 71-37 and a .657 winning percentage. For his career (including his ten seasons at Globe), Coach Wilcox has amassed an overall record of 222-90 going into the last regular season game of the season tomorrow at Cecil College. This gives Wilcox a .711 career winning percentage. While at ASA, Coach Wilcox's teams have appeared in the Region XV-Division I Tournament Championship game every year since the program's start (three seasons in a row).
Along with being ASA College's head men's basketball coach, Coach Wilcox also serves as the school's Athletic Director. With the support of the ASA College administration, in four years Wilcox has built an athletic department that currently boasts ten NJCAA scholarship-level programs with over 300 student-athletes. Each of these programs have already been successful on the regional and national levels.
