Troy, NY - The ASA Avengers came out of the gate strong last weekend in Troy, NY with a 97 yard kickoff return for a touchdown run by Omar Truitt on the first play of the game. Hudson Valley CC would respond with a one yard touchdown run. ASA responded with a pair of safeties along with standout performance from quarterback Stone Labanowitz, totaling a 46-0 scoring run. The Avengers would go on to win 67-14, advancing to 3-1 overall on the 2017 season.
Labanowitz currently leads the NJCAA in efficiency from the quarterback position. Stone is also ranked fourth in pass completion (65.9%) and tied for sixth in passing touchdowns with 11. Labanowitz completed 13 of his 18 attempts versus Hudson Valley, passing for a total of 223 yards along with four total touchdowns. This standout performance earned Stone conference player of the week honors.
ASA's Gabe Gridley also received honorable mentions as a NEFC player of the week. Gridley tallied five punts for over 200 yards with two being downed within 20 yards of the goal line. Gridley was the only special team's player this week with an honorable mention by the NEFC.
The Avengers offense stood out adding 529 yards of total yards. Al'Tariq Jones was the workhorse running back with 18 carries for 74 yards and two touchdowns. Leading the way through the air was Edward Morgan, who had three receptions totaling 85 yards and two touchdowns. Morgan is currently ranked second in the nation in receiving touchdowns with eight on the season. Andre Ridley was the other receiver who recorded a touchdown on Saturday. Ridley is tied for fourth in the nation with five receiving touchdowns.
ASA was active on the defensive front as well, with seven sacks for 46 yards along with 15 tackles for losses. Zuanquay Shannoln and Omar Truitt both recorded interceptions along with Kendricks Gladney who had two of the team's three breakups.

- ASA is ranked eighth in the NJCAA with 30 total touchdowns. They are the only team in the NJCAA with 30-or-more touchdowns with only four games played.
- ASA is also ranked eighth in total points scored with 224 on the season.

- ASA's defense is allowing only 156.3 total yards-per-game along with 13.3 points-per-game.
UP NEXT: The 3-1 ASA Avengers head to Mitchell Field in Nassau County to take on #10 ranked Lackawanna College to open up conference play for the 2017 season. The game is set to kick off at 4:00pm on Saturday October 7th. ASA is 3-2 all-time versus Lackawanna and is seeking their first win since 2014.
