Strong Second Half Propels Avengers Over Monroe, 42-22

NEW ROCHELLE, New York-----The ASA College football team opened their Northeast Football Conference schedule with a win tonight, defeating Monroe College 42-22.  ASA improves to 3-1 overall on the season, and is their third win in a row.  Monroe falls to 1-2, suffering their second conference loss in a row.  ASA is 4-0 historically against the Mustangs.

The Avengers scored three unanswered touchdowns to take a comfortable 35-13 lead with 12:10 left in the game.  

Monroe would strike first on their opening drive, marching 71 yards, finished by a 6-yard touchdown pass.  They would miss the extra point attempt.  

ASA did not respond until the beginning of the second quarter.  Sophomore quarterback, Emmett Hunt would find sophomore receiver Harold Buckner from eight yards out for the 7-6 advantage.  

The Mustangs would retake the lead on their next offensive possession with solid field position.

For the second week in a row, the ASA defense made key plays, which led to scores for the Avengers.  Freshman dfeensive lineman Rashad Brandon forced and recovered a fumble, which ultimately led to a sophomore running back Deon Tidwell 6-yard rushing touchdown.  

Late in the fourth quarter with Monroe making one last push for a comeback, freshman defensive back Dekyri Mims would intercept a Monore pass in the end zone and return it 93 yards to the Monroe 7-yard line setting up an Angelo Nocciolo pass to freshman fullback Tyrell Plaza for the final score.
