#8 ASA Pushes Past Lackawanna 17-3

Peckville, PA-----#8 ASA used their relentless defense and clutch plays in the fourth quarter to defeat Lackawanna this afternoon 17-3.  The Avengers improve to 7-0 on the season and 3-0 in Northeast Football Conference play.  The falcons drop to 4-3 overall and 2-3 in the NEFC.  

ASA jumped out on top on their first drive of the game ending on made field goal by sophomore kicker Cherchen Aloema from 22 yards out.  The game would continue as a defensive battle with both not allowing a score until 5:46 left in the third quarter.  Lackawanna kicker Noe Herrera tied the game on a 28-yard field goal for the Falcons' only score of the afternoon.  

The Avengers took total control of the game in the fourth quarter.  ASA would score on a one- yard run by Hosey Williams after a ten-play 62-yard drive aided by key receptions by freshman wide receiver Jessie Yorke and sophomore receiver Ouslet Volcy.  Williams finished with a game-high 146 rushing yards on 24 carries.

The special teams unit was key for ASA as they would recover a botched kickoff return on the ensuing kick.  On the very next play freshman quarterback Daniel Pietrangelo would connect again with Yorke on 21-yard touchdown pass to take the lead for good with 11:15 left in the game. Yorke would finish with a game-high 107 receiving yards on six receptions, including the touchdown.   

The ASA defense did not let up the entire game, allowing only 129 Lackawanna yards.  The Avengers' defense was led by sophomore defensive end Desmond Hollin who was a monster off of the edge.  He would finish with six tackles (all solo) including three tackles for a loss and two sacks.  Also key on the defense for the Avengers was sophomore linebacker Kadeem Willis who finished the contest four tackles (all solo) including a tackle for a loss, a fumble recovery, and three pass break-ups. 

ASA will return home Saturday, October 20th, to Old Boys High Field to host NEFC member, Erie CC.  Kickoff is scheduled for 12pm.
