STATEN ISLAND, NY --- The ASA College football team cruised to victory this afternoon by defeating the Wagner College JV 71-0.  ASA improves to 3-0 with win and remains at 1-0 in Northeast Football Conference play. ASA has pitched three shutouts to open the season and scored an astonishing 172 points!

The Avengers made their presence known on the first defensive play on the afternoon at their own three-yard line.  Everyone probably thought Wagner would score on the first play of the game but ASA had other plans.  Avenger middle linebacker Rashaun Smith would run right over the Wagner JV center putting a tackle on the quarterback that popped the ball free at the 5-yard line that ASA defensive end Gary Scruggs would pick up and take to the "house" after 95-yards.  Scruggs would make best on another fumble which he forced later on in the half returning it to the end zone 25-yards.

The Avengers scored on their second possession on a 33-yard pass from freshman quarterback Daniel Pietrangelo to freshman receiver Lovie Banks-Rose.  Only two minutes later ASA was in the end zone again on a 9-yard Brandon Stout run.  Stout was excellent on the afternoon finishing with 104 rushing yards on only eight carries and three touchdowns.

Freshman quarterback Bobby Noble would come in relief for Pietrangelo and showed efficiency finishing 2-3 with the pass including a touchdown.

ASA kicker Cherchen Aloema set a school record kicking a 52-yard field goal.

ASA's defense has continued their shutout streak playing with relentless tenacity.  The Avengers only allowed Wagner 18 total yards on the afternoon. Freshman CJ Johnson finished with four tackles including three for a loss and a sack.  Desmond Hollin also finished with four tackles including three for a loss.

The Avengers play their home opener on Saturday, September 22nd.  ASA will continue its non-conference schedule as they host Monroe College at Old Boys High Field in Brooklyn.  Kickoff is scheduled for 1pm.
