Avengers Shut Out Hudson Valley 40-0

Troy, NY----The ASA football team recorded their second shutout in a row defeating NEFC member Hudson Valley 40-0 this afternoon.  The Avengers improve to 2-0 on the season and 1-0 in Northeast Football Conference play.  HVCC falls to 0-2 on the season and 0-1 in conference. 

After a scoreless first quarter, the Avengers lit up the scoreboard in the second quarter scoring thirty unanswered points.  ASA would get their first score on a 23-yard Cherchen Aloema field goal.  On their next offensive possession ASA's Hosey Williams scored his fourth touchdown of the season on a 41-yard run.  With 4:51 left in the half, starting quarterback, Daniel Pietrangelo, would score his first touchdown as an Avenger on a 7-yard qb keeper.  Only three minutes later, ASA would score again on a 6-yard James Kenner run.  The Avengers were not finished scoring in the first half as defensive end, Desmond Hollin would return an interception 25-yards to the endzone. 

ASA wouldn't score another touchdown until 1:49 in the fourth quarter on a 40-yard Anthony Haynes run.  The Avengers' defense was as stingy as ever only allowing 137 yards for the game.  In addition to Hollin Zedrick Gardner, Rashaun Smith, and Devante Waugh all had interceptions.  Sophomore linebacker Kadeem Willis was all over the field defensive finishing with a ten tackles including two for a loss.  Sophomore defensive end Trevor Harris had a career afternoon with eight tackles including a sack.  

The Avengers return to the gridiron on Sunday, September 16th, in Staten Island to take on Wagner College's JV.
