Avengers Shut Down Louisburg "O", Win 27-3
Brooklyn, NY----The Avengers took care of business in their final home contest of the season by defeating first-year Northeast Football Conference member, Louisburg, 27-3 this afternoon at Old Boys High.
After a scoreless first quarter with both teams testing each other out, the Avengers would strike first on two successful field goal attempts by freshman kicker, Cherchen Aloema (Miami, FL); his long coming from 31 yards out. Just before the half, Louisburg would drive the ball down to ASA's two-yard line. However, after a couple of stops and a penalty, Louisburg would be forced to settle for a 22-yard field goal ending the first half with an ASA 6-3 lead.
The third quarter would belong to ASA as they would twice in less than two minutes. The first score would come on a 29-yard touchdown pass from sophomore quarterback, Jared Johnston (Dumfries, VA), to freshman wide receiver Isiah Ferguson (Mt. Vernon, NY). Sophomore Daniel Bryant (Tallahassee, FL) scored the next touchdown off of a blocked Louisburg punt.
ASA would add an insurance touchdown on a 1-yard run into the end zone by freshman tailback Isaiah Moody (Staten Island, NY) an eight- play sixty-yard drive.
The ASA defense was solid especially on the pass, allowing only seven completions on 27 attempts. Louisburg finished the game with 214 total offensive yards. ASA would finish with 365. Sophomore linebacker Matthew Sims-Darden (Miami, FL)[Pictured] put forth a strong effort for ASA finishing the game with six tackles (4 solo), 1.5 tackles for a loss, a sack, and an interception.
The Avengers improve to 4-3 overall with win and 3-2 in Northeast Football Conference. ASA is now 2-0 against Louisburg since the start of the program three years ago.
ASA will look to finish the season on a high note at #16 Nassau CC (Mitchel Field) next weekend, November 12th, at 2pm. The game will be played for sole possession of second-place in the NFC.
