BROOKLYN, NY -- Both ASA and Hudson Valley opened their regular season and conference play in today's match-up against each other this afternoon. ASA would open the game with 20 unanswered points most of the way through the first half. Hudson Valley would break the drought on a 64-yard touchdown reception and run by Donte Gage (So./WR/Syracuse, NY) from Devon Green (Fr./QB/Gainesville, VA). ASA would add to their lead right before the end of the first half on a nine-yard rushing touchdown by Kadeem Willis (Fr./RB/Murray, KY) and a blocked punt returned by Josh Rivers (So./DB/Titusville, FL) into the end zone. ASA would go into half time with the 34-7 lead.
ASA would get into the endzone two more times in the second half. Once on a one-yard rush by Kadeem Willis for his second of the day, and again on a 68-yard rush by Dirone McBride (So./RB/New Orleans, LA).
ASA's Cherchen Aloema (Fr./K/Miami, FL) was a perfect 3-3 on field goal attempts with his long coming from 42-yards.
Hudson Valley's Nick Gilbo (Fr./LB/Port Henry, NY) led all defensive players with eight tackles (five solo) on the afternoon. Aaron Fant (So./LB/Willingboro, NJ) would lead ASA with seven tackles including 1.5 sacks. Wayne Williams (Fr./DL/Brooklyn, NY) added 2.5 sacks for ASA.
ASA improves to 1-0 on the season and 1-0 in Northeast Conference while Hudson Valley falls to 0-1 on both respectively. ASA will take on Army JV AT West Point on September 18th for their next contest while HVCC hosts NFC opponent Lackawanna on September 17th.
