3-PEAT!!! Avengers Reign Over Region XV Once Again

FISHKILL, NY --- ASA Baseball captured its third consecutive Region XV Division I championship this weekend, sweeping Globe Institute in the best-of-three series at Dutchess Stadium.

ASA took Game 1 of the series with a decisive 11-3 victory over the Knights. Region XV Division I Player of the Year Patrick Robinson (Goshen, NY) lived up to his new title, pitching eight innings and striking out ten batters in the process.

The Avengers offense, led by its other All-Region XV selections, took care of its end and gave Robinson the comfortable cushion he enjoyed for most of the game.

Eduardo Valdez, Johnathan Tineo, Ernesto Gomez, Andrickson Zorrilla, and Jose Guaba combined to go 6-for-17 (.352) with six RBIs, four doubles, three runs scored and a triple. Guaba had the was the catalyst, going 2-for-3 with two doubles and three RBIs alone. Tineo also swiped one of the team's three stolen bases in the game.

In the series-clincing Game 2, ASA's all-star core led the way once again. With Gomez resting, the four other All-Region players put together a 5-for-13 (.384) performance that included six RBIs, four runs scored, two doubles, one home run and one triple.

Sophomore pitcher Miguel Raposo (San Pedro de Macoris, DR) was solid on the mound, pitching 6 2/3 innings of two-run ball. Raposo struck out five batters and gave up three hits. Freshman Danniel Martinez (St. Petersburg, FL) earned the save with 2 1/3 innings of relief.

The Avengers will once again travel to compete in the Region XX Tournament from May 11-13, looking to win the tournament and make it to the Eastern District tournament.
