The ASA Avengers capped off its regular-season campaign with a season-high seven-game winning streak – just in time for Region XV playoff action.
The current streak trumped a five-game winning streak in the middle of April, as the Avengers went from a team middling around the .500 mark to one that's as hot and productive at the plate as any in the region.
Led by the hot hitting of usual suspects like shortstop Miguel Medina (batting .462 with 46 RBIs), catcher David Torres (.333, five homers, and 30 RBIs), third baseman Reynaldo Guillen (.423, 33 RBIs), designated Eurick Perez (.365, 23 RBIs), and rightfielder Oliver Liranzo (.308, 17 RBIs), ASA (23-19-1) has ripped through the competition and head into the Region XV postseason primed for a takeover.
The recent winning ways has featured a whopping 10.4 runs per game, including five contests in which they tallied at least 11 runs. And overall, ASA has banged a conference-best 28 homers and the second-most triples (10) for the season.
The pitching has also rounded into form just in time as well as they've only yielded 1.4 runs per game during this trek. Blaylor Galice (2-2) went the distance in one outing as he performed a three-hit shutout while fanning four. Luis Sanchez Tejada (7-1) has led the staff masterfully and by example in his outings, as one recent performance on the mound featured a complete-game three-hitter with six strikeouts. Leurys Diaz (5-1) hurled six of the possible seven innings in a recent victory, as he fanned a season-high eight without allowing an earned-run in a five-hitter.
Up next for the red-hot Avengers is a three-day playoff, running from Wednesday to Friday, at famed Dutchess Stadium in Wappingers Falls, New York. All first pitches will be at noon for the three games.
